Balcony advertised as 'bedroom' for rent for $300 a week

The rental crisis has resulted in several makeshift rooms being offered for rent including this unusual listing.

As Australia's rental crisis continues, so do the wild stories about the type of rooms being listed — only this particular one isn’t even a room.

On Tuesday a Sydney man advertised on Facebook what appears to be a balcony in one of the Miramar building apartments in Haymarket for “1 boy” in the Sydney CBD.

The bizarre bedroom on the balcony is enclosed in a tight and narrow space, with heavy dark blue curtains on either side of the glass sliding doors. Behind one set of curtains are skyline views while behind the other curtain the glass door has been covered in silver tarpaulin, perhaps for privacy.

Inside there is a single mattress, squeezed next to a bedside table, chair, a TV on a stand and blue carpet on the tiled floor.

The listing is described as being in a new, quiet and clean apartment". The makeshift room rents for $300 per week. One bedroom apartments in the block appear to go for about $700 a week.

"Next to World Square, only 5 minutes walk to town hall station, China Town, UTS, Paddys Market, Coles and Woolworths," the man advertised in student Facebook groups as well as groups like Inner West Buy Sell and Give Away.

"All bills included, fast NBN Wifi and rice, basic cleaning stuffs and cooking stuffs. Min stay 4 months. Prefer long term & less cook. 3 weeks notice move out."

He has also asked potential tenants to list any items they will bring when contacting him. "Will you bring own furniture, big electronic, bike?" he posted. "Quick response 041*******. Please kindly send me your information."

The Facebook listing includes photos of the indoor swimming pool at the Miramar building, which also has a gym.

Yahoo News Australia has reached out to the man for comment. The listing has since been deleted.
