Bake Off: The Professionals returned for its sweat-inducing semi-final on Sunday night.

After only one of the four teams impressed judges Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin in the first Peach Melba task, Adam's Restaurant chefs Ajay and Petra made a crucial error with their edible fairytale scene by serving it frozen.

Cherish and Benoit were both left deflated by this slip-up, and so Ajay and Petra crashed out of the competition.

Having introduced their Cinderella-themed creation, which consisted of rhubarb compote, ginger sponge, a granola base, rhubarb and rose jelly, and a mascarpone custard, Ajay and Petra's feedback started off brightly.

"The piece that really, really attracted my attention is your carriage, you can see the stem over here and I really enjoyed it," Cherish told the pair. "However, we are looking for finesse, we are looking for technique. I wish you had given us a bit more."

Then came Benoit's forkful. "There is a problem here, the dessert is totally frozen!" announced the Frenchman. "Your sponge is too cold so it's very rubbery".

His fellow judge suggested the contestants had let themselves down after boasting "the best taste profile" across the series - she couldn't penetrate the cake's freezing texture to reach its flavours.

After much deliberation, it was confirmed that Gerol and Michael, Tanuj and Narayan, and Bharat and John had made it to this year's Bake Off: The Professionals final.

Before heading home, Ajay told the cameras: "We have learned so much, we have showcased what we can do and made our families proud, so there's no reason for us to be sad even though we are just a little bit sad..."

Who'll take home the top prize? May the best partnership win.
