Austrian chancellor says he had 'very friendly' call with Trump

Coalition talks after elections, in Vienna

BERLIN (Reuters) - Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer had a "very friendly and forward-looking" phone call with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in which the two leaders discussed topics including energy security, Nehammer said on social media platform X on Tuesday.

In the call on Monday night, "I congratulated him on his resounding re-election victory, and we discussed key topics such as energy security, economic and defense cooperation," he said, adding that he looked forward to deepening the countries' ties.

Nehammer had first congratulated Trump shortly after Fox News projected the Republican candidate's victory over Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
