But the raucous crowd started yelling out their support for Nadal and appeared to catch the attention of Kyrgios.

A fan was heard screaming support for Nadal when Kyrgios turned to the spectators and quipped: “he’s married” which brought a huge laugh from the fans.

Nadal and Xisca Perello were married in a ceremony on the Spanish island of Mallorca, the star-studded event attended by the king and queen emeritus of Spain, Juan Carlos and Sofia, and numerous other famous guests.

Kyrgios went on to hold serve and take the set, but was ousted in a thrilling four-set battle.

Despite a history of bad blood between the pair, the match was played out in good spirits as Nadal prevailed 6-3 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-4) in a centre-court thriller on Monday night.

Kyrgios gave it his all during the rollercoaster fourth round clash, but Nadal provided a perfect illustration of why he’s the number one ranked player in the world.

"I encourage him to keep working like that, because he is one of the highest talents."
