Australian family seconds from disaster after 4WD falls into giant sinkhole
An Australian family has had a frightening close call after their 4WD was swallowed up by a sinkhole on an Indonesian street.
Nail-biting footage shows the family scramble out of their vehicle as it sits precariously on the edge of the gaping opening on the busy street in Kentungan, Yogyakarta, The Jakarta Post reported.
The mother jumps out the passenger seat, grabbing her son from the back seat. Her husband follows moments later.
Seconds later, it drops into the hole with the family managing to escape with their little boy just in time.
Bystanders can be seen rushing to the aid of the family who miraculously managed to escape unscathed.
A truck had also fallen victim to the giant hole with local authorities now investigating the incident.
Michael and Margie Rule, a Melbourne couple travelling the world with their young son Sebastian in their Land Rover, were in Indonesia on the latest leg of their trip.
They took to their Facebook page to reveal they were all in good health and were now in a hotel.
Their Land Rover had been pulled from the hole but according to the family it “does not look great”.
