Australian 'found dead in Thai hotel with suicide note and cash left behind'

An Australian expat has reportedly been found dead in a Thailand hotel room with 3000 baht in cash and a suicide note.

Edward Padinga, 68, was discovered in a hotel in Buriram, about 410 km northeast of Bangkok on Monday (local time), the Thairath reported.

He had been dead for three hours by the time someone found him, the publication said.

Police and medics arrived at the scene, and called the last number on the man’s phone. That belonged to his 29-year-old wife, who travelled to the hotel and answered questions from detectives.

She told them he lost his passport and other belongings in Pattaya, a town about four hours away, claiming local police showed little interest at the time.

This apparently sent him into a depressed state, Thairath reported.

The handwritten suicide note reportedly detailed several factors that contributed to his decision to end his life.

Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious, given there were no obvious signs of foul play. The man’s body was sent for an autopsy to determine his actual cause of death.
