Australia Post delivery driver throws parcel in shocking video

An Australia Post customer’s home security system has caught footage of a delivery driver throwing a parcel at their door.

The video, which shows a postal worker, who is wearing high visibility clothing, climbing the stairs of a unit building, was posted publicly to Facebook on Monday.

Four stairs from the top, the postal worker is shown throwing the package at the recipient’s door, before taking a photograph of the parcel and walking away.

The post, hashtagged #covidsafe, alleges that the mail service has taken Covid-19 distancing precautions too far.

“Is this the new Covid policy with people’s paid-for goods?” the poster wrote.

The mail recipient appears to live in Victoria, which has recently seen an extension to their lockdown in response to new cases.

Australia Post’s Covid Response webpage states that they’ve implemented contactless deliveries without required signatures, with their Covid Safe Plan stating that social distancing is enforced.

“Drivers are to follow corporate guidelines for pick-up and delivery processes and be conscious of maintaining 1.5 metre social distancing with customers and members of the public,” it reads.

Australia Post apologises to customer

An Australia Post spokesperson has told Yahoo News Australia the video shows that procedures have not been adhered to.

“Our people are working hard to deliver a record amount of parcels for our customers, and while the vast majority arrive safely, in this case it is clear our delivery procedures have not been followed and we sincerely apologise to this customer,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said any customers with concerns can contact Australia Post for assistance on 13POST or by visiting the Australia Post Help Website.

‘Cheeky’ postie slammed in comments

Commenters weighed in on the Australia Post package-throwing footage.

“Cheeky, wouldn’t want that on camera,” one person wrote.

“Such a caring way of doing their job,” another said.

“They take a picture of it on the doormat but don’t take a picture of it being thrown,” a third said.

Australia Post has previously been slammed by customers for botched deliveries.

One person said her package was thrown causing damage to an enclosed antique, while another customer’s birthday present arrived broken.

In separate footage, a postal worker is seen leaving a parcel on a letterbox when the recipient was home.
