Australia Post deadlines: Christmas parcels to be sent by Dec 13

The deadline has arrived for sending gifts that will arrive in time for Christmas with Australia Post’s standard Parcel Post.

Australia Post has warned that Monday is the last chance to send gifts and parcels throughout Australia via standard post to ensure they arrive by Christmas.

However, if customers need a little bit more time, they can send parcels through Australia Post's Express Post, the deadline for this being December 15 in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and December 20 elsewhere.

This year, it is expected Australia Post will deliver more than 52 million parcels, which is the total from last year, Australia Post Executive General Manager Deliveries Rod Barnes said.

On the busiest days this year, more than three million parcels could be delivered.

Australia Post delivering on weekends and evenings

“We’re coming off the back of the biggest online shopping month ever in November, so we know a lot of people did get their Christmas shopping done early during those big cyber sales and as a result we’ve been delivering over 2.3 million parcels each weekday,” he said.

“But for those who haven’t had the chance to finalise their gifts yet, we’re doing everything we can to give them the best chance of arriving, including delivering on weekends and until early evening where needed, up until Christmas Eve."

Mr Barnes said Australia Post will strive to deliver presents before Christmas if people miss the deadline, but people should know they might not arrive until after December 25.

Trading hours at 380 Post Offices around Australia have been extended to allow for people to have more time to send off gifts.
