Aussies divided over 'pathetic' salad with $31 pub meal: 'What are you thinking?'
Aussies have been debating whether the house salad served with the woman's pub meal is acceptable or not.
An Aussie claims to have dined at a pub that clinches the top prize for "most pathetic" house salad after it was served up alongside her $31 parmi this week.
The woman was at the Hawthorne Hotel in Melbourne's inner-city suburb when the waiter placed the dish in front of her, leaving her speechless while looking down at the salad on the side of the plate.
"I'm so sorry but is this not the most pathetic house salad you've ever seen at a pub?" the woman asked on social media, showing the salad in question, adding "What are you thinking?"
It consisted of several large lettuce leaves and a few strings of onion, which appeared to be either caramelised or pickled.
Aussies divided over 'woeful' house salad serving
After uploading her opinion online hundreds of Aussies weighed in on the salad and surprisingly, many were divided on whether it was acceptable or not.
Some pushed back against the diner, saying the salad is of little significance as it's not what people "go to pubs" for, and hardly anyone eats the side salad when it comes with a meal. Some even said they liked the look of it.
"Looks good to me, green salads are underrated," one wrote, while another said they would be "happy with that salad". "It's a garnish basically, you got chips and a parmi, they're the important bits," a third person said.

However, others agreed with the diner, with one woman who claims she recently dined at the Hawthorn Hotel saying she received the same one last week and "thought the same" as the diner, calling it out as a "shameful" offering.
"That is actually woeful," another wrote, while the onions on top were compared to worms. "If I wanted lettuce I would have just gone to Woolworths," one said.
