Aussie TV presenter reveals shock new career move: 'It's true'

Well-known ABC TV presenter Elysse Morgan has quit journalism after 15 years to take on a surprising new role.

The journalist has been presenting ABC program The Business since 2017 after working as a rural reporter and at Sky News. She has long been applauded for her in-depth interviews on topics of business and economics.

The ABC presenter however has announced she will finish up at The Business on Thursday to take a role with investment firm Stafford Capital Partners next year.

Stafford chair Brett Himbury said in a statement on Tuesday she would be leading the firm's business development agenda in Australia.

"Elysse Morgan has been investigating and interrogating businesses and business leaders in this country on ABC TV for over a decade. The fact that Elysse is attracted to building the Stafford business in the Australian market is a great outcome," he said.

"In addition, Elysse's role as a trustee director and her deep involvement in superannuation give rise to her bringing a truly unique experience set.

“Elysse will work with superannuation funds in Australia, as well as other institutional investors, to help them realise their net zero aspirations and deliver great returns for their members.

“Stafford is very committed to growing the business in Australia and Elysse will be central to those efforts.”

Elysse said in the statement the opportunity to work at Stafford was "irresistible".

“I want to be part of the solution to the climate change challenge and Stafford is one of the biggest investors in carbon-reducing forestry plantations on the planet," she said.

"I look forward to joining an organisation with a great culture and strong track record in delivering superior returns across private equity, private debt, timber and infrastructure.”

Elysse's colleagues congratulated her after she posted on Twitter, "It's true. This Thursday will be my last on The Business".

"Well done Elysse: warm congratulations and go and be that change!" ABC presenter Virginia Trioli wrote.

"What an exciting path ahead," reporter Norman Hermant commented.

"You are such a talent and I will miss your weird and wacky sense of humour. Wishing you every success," ABC TV presenter Juanita Phillips added.
