Aussie mum devastated after toddler 'falls to death from balcony'

A Perth mother and her British partner are in mourning after their 18-month-old son reportedly fell to his death from an apartment balcony in Portugal.

Holly Bishop and Robert Devlin had been living in Lagos on Portugal’s south coast where their son Spencer fell from second floor balcony on Saturday morning, according to a GoFundMe page.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries before he was transferred to Algarve University Hospital Centre in Faro where he later died from his injuries.

Friends back in Australia started the GoFundMe page to help the heartbroken couple with funeral arrangements.

“Yesterday was the worst day of Rob and Holly’s life’s,” the page, which was created on Sunday, read.

“They did all they could for him but unfortunately he just couldn’t fight any longer and last night their beautiful baby boy Spencer grew his little wings and left all of his family behind.

“They are beyond devastated and would like to let everyone know, but at the moment would just like some time to come to terms with their loss and be around family.”

Ms Bishop’s sister, Jess Marach, paid tribute to her nephew on the GoFundMe page.

“Forever in my heart Baby Spencer. Aunty Jess,” she wrote.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it is aware of media reports about the incident and stands ready to offer consular assistance to any Australian citizen should they require it.
