Aussie man left fighting for his life in Indonesia after horrific accident

The start of a five-month holiday of a lifetime was cut short this week for a 25-year-old Australian man after a serious accident left him fighting for life in Indonesia.

Luke Bevan arrived in Lombok with his girlfriend Tova Ronnersjö earlier this week to begin the start of their holiday before travelling to Central and South America.

Not long after arriving however, the couple were involved in a life-altering accident leaving Mr Bevan, from Western Australia’s Kimberly region, in a critical condition.

The exact circumstances around the accident remain unclear.

His mum, dad and brother have flown to the popular holiday destination to be at his side while he is treated for a punctured and collapsed lung from four broken ribs.

The family have appealed for financial help in a Go Fund Me page so they can pay for him to be returned to Australia to receive the medical care he requires.

Mr Bevan’s auntie Lisa Ilott-Hogg said he had undergone two surgeries so far, where a “large piece of his skull” was removed.

“Lukey is unconscious, and will remain that way at least until his next CT scan,” she wrote to the fundraising page.

“He has family by his side, but our priority once he is cleared to travel is to bring him back to Australia where he will get further treatment and remain in hospital for quite some time.”

Ms Ilott-Hogg added the family was staring down the barrel at having to fork out between $50,000 and $60,000 just to transport him back to Australia.

She said her nephew would remain unconscious until doctors decided his condition was stable enough for him to be conscious again.

In a post to Broome’s Roebuck Plains Roadhouse Facebook, it was revealed Ms Ronnersjö was also injured but was “physically is in much better condition”.

“She had surgery on her arm yesterday and expects to be released from hospital tomorrow so she can be by Lukey’s side,” the post read.

“Tova will return to Australia with Mandi and Luke when he is able to return.”

In less than a day, the fundraising account has raised $36,288 of its $50,000 target.
