Aussie dad wins lottery twice in three weeks: 'How does this happen?'

·2-min read

An extremely lucky NSW dad has managed to collect his second major lottery prize within three weeks.

The Katoomba resident won the guaranteed first prize of $100,000 in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10684 on Friday.

Incredibly, he previously won $100,000 in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10665, drawn on August 31.

The man told an official at The Lott he was left speechless when he checked his second winning ticket.

"How does this happen? I'm shocked," he said. "This is insane."

"I'm getting used to this now, which is such a bizarre thing to say.

"You never expect to win the lotto once, so to win again is amazing.

"Funnily enough, I received the payment for my first win yesterday after the two-week provisional period, and now I'm about to receive another one in two weeks. Crazy."

Winner too shocked for spending plans

The Blue Mountains local plans to continue buying tickets in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draws to see if he can repeat his win yet again.

"They do say third times the charm. Let's see how I go in the future," he said.

When asked how he plans to enjoy his latest $100,000 win, the man shared he was too mind-boggled from winning twice to make any concrete plans.

"I honestly haven't had a moment to think about it. I know it will go to good use though," he said.

"I'm still trying to figure out how to spend my first prize. I know a brand-new car for my daughter was initially on the list."

The winning entry of 10 random numbers was purchased at Katoomba Newsagency.

Jackpot nearing $30 million

The Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $27.84 million for draw 10685, while the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $14.69 million for draw 1592.

In the last financial year, there were 169 Lucky Lotteries first prize and jackpot winning entries across Australia, winning more than $32.95 million.

Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot are raffle-style games, which means there is a set number of tickets in each draw. As each ticket number is unique there is no sharing of prizes.

Each game has two draws: one that determines the winning numbers and one that determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the Jackpot Prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the Jackpot Prize will climb for the next draw.
