Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Ashley Young on an initial six-month deal from Manchester United.

Young, 34, has joined Inter for the rest of the season, with the option of a further one-year contract extension until summer 2021 on the table.

Standard Sport understands that United and Inter agreed a fee of around £1.3million for Young - who is taking the No.15 shirt at San Siro - yesterday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær was reluctant to weaken his squad without bringing in reinforcements - but with United closing in on a deal for Bruno Fernandes, it has paved the way for Inter to get their man.

Young was also the subject of interest from Lazio and Crystal Palace, but Inter was his preferred destination, following in the footsteps of former teammates Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to link up with Antonio Conte.

United hastily tabled a new one-year deal for the 34-year-old, which was rejected. However, United are well covered at wing-back in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot.

Young's move to San Siro ends an eight-and-a-half season association with United, having joined from Aston Villa for a fee rising to £20 million in the summer of 2011.

United posted a tweet to thank Young, reading: "Thank you for everything at #MUFC, @Youngy18.

"Wishing you the very best of luck with Inter Milan!"
