Artists make noise against Romania's COVID response

One hundred protesters - the maximum number of people allowed to gather under Romania's current COVID regulations - took part in the action, held outside a government building, on Romanian's National Culture Day.

Razvan Alienei, a representative for artists, said the cultural industry was the first closed and will be the last to reopen.

He said the protesters wanted specific regulations for the industry and criticized the lack of financial compensation received from the government during the pandemic.

The pandemic has killed 59,180 people in the country so far. The ruling coalition government is still negotiating whether to send a new bill mandating a COVID-19 health pass.
