Arson suspected in suburban Perth bushfire

A bushfire which came dangerously close to houses in northern Perth is believed to have been deliberately lit.

Firefighters were called to patch of land in Aveley just after 4pm on Saturday after reports a grove of paperbark trees were ablaze and producing heavy smoke.

Strong winds spread the fire which burned through 25 hectares of land before being contained, and arson squad detectives have asked to speak to people who live or were in the area.
