Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is hoping to be back training in September after working with a specialist in Spain.

The Spaniard, who joined Arsenal permanently in June from Brazilian club Flamengo, injured his ankle against Manchester City in the first game since football returned from lockdown.

Mari duly underwent surgery to fix the problem and he has since been working at a clinic in Spain undergoing specialist attention and extensive therapy.

The centre-back has been working at the Recover medical centre in Cambrils and his treatment there is understood to have been a success.

Mari is now planning to continue his work with Arsenal’s own medical staff and he is hoping to return to full training in September.

As was the case when his injury was diagnosed, it means the 26-year-old is expected to miss the start of the new Premier League season - which begins on September 12.
