Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has questioned Arsenal’s desire to sign Houssem Aouar this summer.

Arsenal are interested in bringing the 22-year-old midfielder to the Emirates, but are also keen on Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.

Lyon are believed to want a transfer fee in the region of £44million for a player who was key to the Ligue 1 side reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season.

But in an interview with Goal.com, Aulus questioned Arsenal’s desire to sign Aouar, suggesting the Gunners either don’t want the player, or don’t have the funds to sign him.

"No I don't think so, no offer yet,” Lyon’s president told Goal. "It seems that Arsenal don't want to, or can't invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player."

Aulas’ quotes come after Lyon sporting director Juninho confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Aouar earlier this month.

He said: “Houssem Aouar is really well liked by [Mikel] Arteta.”
