Arrest after man dies in M1 crash
A police investigation is under way after a man died in a crash between a car and a lorry on the M1.
Police said emergency services were called to a stretch of motorway just south of junction 27, near Hucknall in Nottinghamshire, at about 04:15 BST on Saturday.
A 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, Nottinghamshire Police added.
A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug-driving, but has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
Det Con Christopher Taylor said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with this man’s family and his loved ones at an incredibly distressing time.
"They are being supported by specially trained officers.
"Our investigation into the causes of the collision are at a very early stage and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or with relevant dashcam footage to get in touch."
The motorway was shut southbound between junctions 28 and 26 for about 12 hours following the crash, police said.
