Armenia president gets virus after UK trip

Armenian President Armen Sargsyan has tested positive for the coronavirus following a trip to the United Kingdom over the New Year, local media reports say.

The 67-year-old, who was diagnosed after coming back to the Armenian capital Yerevan, had reportedly celebrated together with his family in London.

No information was immediately provided on his state of health.

Armenia, a small republic of about 3 million people bordering Turkey and Iran, has registered more than 160,500 coronavirus cases and 2878 deaths.

On Tuesday, 324 new infections were added.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recovered from a coronavirus infection in June.
