ANZ ‘sorry’ after customers’ details found in skip bin
An Aussies was shocked to find ANZ customer’s personal information dumped in a skip bin in Perth.
ANZ has issued an apology after a man found documents containing the personal information of customers dumped in a skip bin in Perth.
Scott Collins told the ABC he was walking to his car when he saw paper blowing down the street, which appeared to be transaction statements.
“There was people's names [and] phone numbers," Collins told the ABC.
"And then I went to look in the skip bin that had more paper, and it was just everywhere."

The documents reportedly contained transaction information, personal details, mortgage loan rates and internal banking procedures.
ANZ said when it became aware of the matter it moved quickly to recover and secure the documents as a priority.
“ANZ takes the security of our customers’ information and our obligations under the law seriously,” ANZ managing director, retail, Katherine Bray said.
“When we close a branch, we have strict processes in place to securely dispose of ANZ documents, including those that contain customer information. This process is closely supervised by our staff and includes a detailed inspection of the premises.
“We are sorry this has occurred and are urgently investigating to understand what has happened in this instance.”
Yahoo Finance understands ANZ has advised some of the customers impacted by the matter and is working with them to address any concerns they may have.
Collins said the documents were found among old teller machines and desks, which were also found in the skip bins, after the local branch closed.
This comes as hundreds of bank branches have been closed around the country. The latest data from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority showed banks closed 677 regional and rural branches in the five years to June 2022.
