Why people are furious over armchair prank on beach

Residents north of Brisbane are furious after a photo emerged of two armchairs on a beach.

A Redcliffe resident shared a photo of the two pieces of furniture in the sand on a beach in the Margate area on Facebook on Tuesday - angered by the find.

“Congratulations,” she wrote.

“You win for having the highest rate of delinquency for dumping your chairs on the beach. This is the second morning I have walked past them.

“Lord knows how long they have been there.

“Clearly the tides washed over them last night meaning they are more buried into the sand than they were when you dumped them and also full of water making them heavy.”

She added “while it might be funny” she’s concerned about fish eating the stuffing or the covers if they’re broken down.

“If as a structure it is thrown by the ocean’s motion into a small vessel and capsizes it it won't be funny to the person or people in that boat,” she wrote.

One fellow resident called the dumping “inexcusable”.

“It's so sad we walk by these things,” another woman wrote.

“I pick up rubbish when I'm walking on the beach. I don't mind. I get annoyed people treat our beautiful front yard like a tip.”

Another woman called the people who dumped the couches “bloody idiots”.

It’s not known if they’ve been collected but one man wrote in the comments on on Tuesday, that council had picked them up.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has been contacted for comment.
