'Boys from Cessnock will be voting yes': NRL star Andrew Johns backs marriage equality
NRL star Andrew Johns has ramped up his support for the "yes" campaign with a photo on Instagram showing him locking lips with former Newcastle Knights teammate Billy Peden.
"Boys from Cessnock will be voting yes @billypeden13. Ha ha sorry bill," Johns wrote in the picture's caption shared late Sunday night, sparking a wave of support.
In less than 12 hours, the post received more than 3500 likes and a string of comments, mostly giving Joey the thumbs up for the pic.
This comes a week after Wallabies superstar Israel Folau sparked a Twitter backlash by revealing he would not support the push for same-sex marriage.
I love and respect all people for who they are and their opinions. but personally, I will not support gay marriage.✌❤🙏

That tweet sparked much criticism, but many showed their support of his right to state his opinion, with former Prime Minsiter Tony Abbott retweeting it.
His stance appears to be in direct opposition to a number of Wallabies teammates, with David Pocock and Michael Hooper backing the "yes" vote in the government's postal survey recently.
The team even changed its social media logo to a rainbow Wallaby in support.
Numerous sporting organisations, including the Australian Rugby Union, have joined the NRL, Cricket Australia and Football Federation Australia in supporting the "yes" campaign.
Results from the postal survey are expected on November 15.
