Andrew Cuomo signs equal pay bill before USWNT parade starts in New York
Before the U.S. women’s soccer team was paraded around New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo wanted the team to know it has his support. To prove that, Cuomo signed equal pay legislation as the team prepared to take the streets of New York.
During the signing, Cuomo came out strongly in favor of the women’s team receiving as much money as the men.

The 61-year-old Cuomo made his case for signing the bill, saying the women play the same game as the men, “only better.”

Cuomo and the team then passed around a sign that read “Parades are cool. Equal pay is cooler.”

On Tuesday, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin introduced legislation that would halt funding for the 2026 World Cup until the women’s team received equal pay.
The U.S. women’s soccer team has been vocal about that fight for a while now. The team filed a wage discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer in March. When U.S. Soccer stood firm on the topic, players said they looked “forward to a trial next year.”
