These stunning images capture the moment a brave young elephant protects its family as it chases away a pack of wild dogs.
Kevin Dooley, 57, captured the animals in South Africa’s Madikwe Game Reserve as a protective juvenile ran at the hunting dogs to scare them off.
The professional wildlife photographer, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, said: “Elephants are very protective of their young and of each other. They will not tolerate any threat to the welfare of their herds.
“I knew we were in the middle of a huge herd of elephants and we were about to have an amazing experience.
“We were presented with one of the most incredible assortment of Southern Africa’s wildlife I have ever witnessed – the assortment of wildlife was almost overwhelming.”
Mr Dooley has been taking guests to the game reserve for several years and knows exactly where the elephants like to visit for fresh water, swimming, and mud bathing.
The photographer added: “So many people may never have the opportunity to witness such events as these elephants protecting their young and their breeding herds.
