'Amazing' $12 Bunnings solution to annoying backyard problem
A Perth woman hit up the hardware store to find a solution to the abundance of flies around her property. Now, Aussies are rushing to get one themselves.
In a single trip to Bunnings, you'll find just about anything you need to keep your home and garden in tip-top shape. And thanks to the trusty hardware store, Aussies have found an easy solution to an annoying backyard problem ahead of summer.
As the weather warms the pesky flies begin to swarm across the country. But not for one Perth woman who swears by an affordable $12 Bunnings buy to keep them at bay.
Keeley Starling revealed the clever hack on social media and admitted she was "honestly amazed" by how well the product worked.
"I'm about to show you something really disgusting, but hear me out because you will need it this summer with the amount of flies that we're getting," she said in a video on TikTok this week admitting she and her partner hit up the hardware store to find a solution.
"I don't know why, but there's just so many flies everywhere," she continued. "We saw these fly traps and look.... it's really disgusting".
Keeley flashed the Envirosafe Fly Trap, which costs just $11.59, before it got to work. It's a clear, cylindrical container filled with a bright green solution. According to the product description. It's a non-toxic, pesticide-free solution that's "irresistible to flies.
"You're supposed to leave it out for 2-3 weeks", Keeley said.
But after just three days, the Perth woman showed what the container had collected. And it was almost full of possibly hundreds of dead flies.
"I'm telling you it works. So go get one," she said but admitted "it stinks" when full. "You're supposed to bury the flies to get rid of the smell," she added.
Aussies praise $12 Bunnings fly trap product
Her recommendation was met with praise from other Aussies who've tried it with many agreeing it's "really awesome" at catching flies. But many warn against the smell that comes along with the entrapment and the fact it seems to attract more flies.
"These do kill flies but holy moly they also attract a thousand more than normal," one said. "This was definitely awesome but I felt like it attracted way more flies than we originally had," another agreed.
"Ours filled up in legit 4 days. The smell once it’s full is like death," another warned. While someone else said, "my jaw just dropped, I was NOT expecting that man" after watching the video.

Aussies report 'more flies than usual' this year
Already, Aussies have noted more flies than usual as summer nears. Last month, one resident was shocked to see a swarm of flies gravitate towards his clothesline with the phenomenon baffling experts.
"What’s with the flies lately?" they said. Others admitted they've also "noticed this lately". "We’ve been getting enormous flies round here," said another.
Meanwhile, responding to Keeley's video one said, "what is up with the flies this year". "I have never seen so many," they added.
