A man has pleaded not guilty to stealing a motorised ambulance stretcher from paramedics on which he allegedly then took for a joy ride in the Sydney CBD last month.

Christian Sharpe, 22, appeared briefly at the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, charged with larceny over the April 28 incident, with his lawyer presenting the plea.

Police allege the $40,000 stretcher had been left outside a city premises when it was taken early on a Saturday morning.

Not long after, a witness told police they saw two men riding a motorised stretcher down George Street.

The stretcher was found several blocks away, and Sharpe was arrested nearby, according to police.

There are no other suspects being sought over the incident, a police spokeswoman told AAP on Wednesday.

Sharpe will face court again on June 27.
