Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Calls Out Trump’s McDonald’s Cosplay: 'They Are Making Fun Of Us'
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has condemned Donald Trump’s performative campaign visit to McDonald’s, claiming the GOP presidential candidate is “making fun” of working people.
Speaking at a United Auto Workers event in Pennsylvania on Sunday, the New York lawmaker also hit out at Elon Musk’s $1 million cash awards for voters, saying he is “dangling a million bucks to those of us and many of us who are struggling to make ends meet if they dance for him.”
Over the weekend, Trump posed as a fry cook and server at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.
It was an apparent dig at Vice President Kamala Harris, who has said that she worked at the fast-food chain in the ’80s. Trump has been at pains to question the veracity of the Democratic presidential nominee’s summer job.
Meanwhile, Musk, the world’s richest person, has said he will hand out vast sums of money in swing states each day until Nov. 5 to boost Trump’s bid for the White House.
“You’ve got Donald Trump putting on a little McDonald’s costume, because he thinks that’s what people do,” Ocasio-Cortez, who was a bartender before entering Congress, said at the UAW event. “They’re not trying to empathize with us. They are making fun of us.”
“Donald Trump thinks that people who work at McDonald’s are a joke,” she added. “Elon Musk thinks that dangling money in front of a working person is a cute thing to do. They have absolutely no idea what our lives are like.”
