Alec Baldwin has claimed that "everybody" on the set of Rust knows "exactly whose to blame" for the death of Halyna Hutchins.

The actor has hit back at recent FBI findings that he is responsible for the 42-year-old cinematographer's passing.

He told the Chris Cuomo Project: "I know that every single person on the set of the film knows what happened, and the people who are talking loudest about what happened or speculating about what happened were not on the set of the film.

"They are talking on and on and on about what if this and what if that and have dined out on this and the thing that they have in common is nobody was there.

"Everybody who was there, they know exactly what happened. They know exactly who’s to blame."

The 64-year-old, who is being sued by the late cinematographer's family for her death, suggested that a process known as "fanning a gun" could have caused the shooting.

"If you pull the hammer back and you don’t lock the hammer, if you pull the hammer back pretty far, in old Western movies, you would see someone fan the hammer of the gun," he added.

"The hammer didn’t lock, you pulled it back to an extent where it would fire the bullet without you pulling the trigger, without you locking the hammer.”

He continued: "The man who is the principal safety officer of the set of the film declared the gun was safe when he handed it to me.

“The man who was the principal safety officer of the film declared in front of the entire assemblage, ‘This is a cold gun.’

"Now, why did he say that if he didn’t know and hadn’t checked? The point is we were told everything was cool and you can relax and we are working with a gun that is safe to rehearse with.”

Baldwin had been rehearsing on the set of the film on October 21 2021 when a gun he was holding went off and shot and killed Hutchins.

He has always denied responsibility for the cinematographer's death, insisting he would "never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them."

However, the FBI investigation concluded that the gun used in the incident "could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger”.

Initial court records following the incident showed that the star had been told the gun had no ammunition in it.
