Aldi shoppers rage as Special Buys sell out: 'Very disappointed'

Two of Aldi’s most popular cult buys, the hanging egg chair and outdoor woodfire pizza oven, made their dramatic return to shelves on Saturday, however, they weren’t there for long.

According to reports on social media, the pair of must-have summer items were snapped up at lightning speed by shoppers who had queued outside their local stores ahead of opening time.

One Facebook user shared a video of the line outside an Aldi in Victoria that stretched all the way along the length of the shopping centre.

In another post, a ‘disappointed’ shopper vented about missing out on one of just two pizza ovens after queuing for over half an hour.

“Very very disappointed Aldi they advertised there [sic] special buys and u stock 2 Woodfire pizza ovens wow just wow and stood in line for 35 mins,” they wrote.

“Our local didn't get any,” responded another.

One customer did have success, writing, “I got one...our store only had 4!”

Another shopper who had arrived at their local store at 7 am remarked, “Can’t believe that there are so many people here already wow”.

“My partner’s there right now trying to buy the outdoor lounge. I don't think he knows what he's in for,” joked a user in the comments.

“All sold out at Colonaides SA,” reported another.

Another customer described the chaotic scenes as people scrambled to get their hands on the hot items, writing, “Thank goodness I didn’t want the pizza oven or egg chair, that was cray cray!”

One shopper proudly shared a snap of their prime position right in front of the store’s glass doors, writing, “First in line for Saturday specials.”

Others were less successful, with one disappointed customer relating how they weren’t able to buy an egg chair as some people were filling their trolleys.

“My husband went and lined up at one of our local Aldis this morning to get an egg chair... couldn’t get one as people in front of him were buying multiples.

“We have 4 Aldis here, I went to the others before work and could not get one anywhere. Sad times.”

Aldi’s egg chair and pizza oven a hit

Priced at $199 for the hanging egg chair and $179 for the woodfire pizza oven, there was little doubt that the Special Buys on Saturday, September 26 would be a calm affair.

Adding to the excitement was the release of a three-piece outdoor furniture set for $499 which includes a daybed, two separate sunchairs, an L-shaped outdoor couch and more.

In sad news for Victorian Aldi fans, both the outdoor furniture set and the egg chair are unavailable in metro areas under stage-four restrictions due to their bulky frames requiring two people to lift them.

Currently, just one member of a household is permitted to go shopping.

Aldi did, however, confirm to Yahoo Lifestyle that the woodfire pizza oven would be on sale in Victoria.

Even though Aldi has had its product removal policy in place for several weeks now, some customers were still very unhappy to be missing out.

“Disappointed ...Aldi released during week on large items requiring 2person removed from sale in Stage4 areas due to distancing rules, not happy Jan!,” wrote a furious Victorian shopper on Facebook.
