A defamation lawsuit against talkback radio host Alan Jones is expected to begin in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday.

The prominent Queensland-based Wagner family are suing Mr Jones and his employer Harbour Radio over several broadcasts.

They allege he made defamatory claims about their quarry's role in the 2011 Queensland floods.

Radio station 4BC Brisbane and journalist Nicholas Cater are also being sued as part of the proceedings.

It was determined last year the trial, which is expected to go for several weeks, will be heard by a judge rather than a jury.

Justice Peter Flanagan will preside over the case.
