Airbnb owner furious after Aussies trash house in wake of Bledisloe Cup loss

An irate Airbnb owner claims he is out of pocket more than $5000 after a group of rowdy Australian rugby fans left his property looking like a “junkyard”.

When 16 mates made a booking for Ravi Punjwani’s Auckland property, they assured him the house would simply be used for sleeping after Australia’s second Bledisloe Cup match – he now knows that wasn’t quite the case.

“The house looked like a junkyard after the guests checked out,” the furious property owner told Yahoo7 News.

Mr Punjwani said chairs and couches were broken, smashed glasses were littered around the house and alcohol was sprayed onto the carpets and ceilings.

He said not only was the outdoor area covered in cigarette butts, but the guests went one step further and covered smoke alarms with plastic bags so they could smoke inside.

He questioned whether the All Blacks crushing 40-12 victory over the Wallabies may have “triggered a sense of restlessness and anger” among the group.

“There were several wine and flute glasses missing and broken. A floral decoration was destroyed and thrown away… leftover food and drinks lying around everywhere,” Mr Punjwani added.

But perhaps the most baffling part to Mr Punjwani was the amount of underwear left behind at the house.

“I wonder if they checked out without any clothes on them? I hope it is not common in Australia to leave undies in other’s houses,” he added.

“They clearly didn’t live like humans.”

He said the $500 bond was not going to come close to covering the damages, resulting in a time-consuming claim to Airbnb.

“It takes a while to gather all the documentation and it’s a painful process where we need to pull out all the old receipts of the furniture or interiors purchased, and submit that as evidence of purchase and amount claimed,” he said.

“Such guests get busy with their lives after they check out leaving us stranded for their actions.

“I’ve just now finished submitting the claim to Airbnb which amounted more than $5000.”
