'Horrible to watch': AFL rocked by sickening Jarman Impey injury

WARNING: The following contains graphic images that some readers may find confronting.

Hawthorn star Jarman Impey has suffered a horrible knee injury in his side’s clash with Geelong.

Impey went up for a contested mark early in Saturday’s game at the MCG but landed very awkwardly.

His right knee buckled gruesomely as he hit the ground, crumpling to a heap on the turf.

He immediately cried out in anguish and grabbed his knee, the game coming to a complete stop while he received medical attention.

“This is horrible to watch,” one commentator said as a replay was shown.

“You’ve just got to hope for bone bruising,” Brisbane Lions great Jonathan Brown added.

Impey, 24, has averaged 17.5 disposals and 5.1 marks in 16 games this season, but his hopes of playing finals might have been ruined.

“He’s been exceptional. He’s had an outstanding season and been a great acquisition. A virtual steal from the Port Adelaide,” David King said.
