Collingwood Magpies forward Jordan De Goey has been charged with indecent assault by Victoria Police, the club has revealed.

In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, the club confirmed the 24-year-old had been charged over an incident dating back to 2015.

The Magpies’ statement said de Goey had been interviewed by police and the AFL integrity unit over the incident back in 2018, but no charges were laid at the time.

“Collingwood player Jordan de Goey was today charged with one count of indecent assault relating to an historical incident in 2015,” the statement read.

“At Collingwood’s insistence, and with full cooperation from De Goey, the matter was investigated by the AFL Integrity Unit and Victoria Police in 2018.

“No charges were laid.

“De Goey will remain in the Collingwood football program while the legal process takes its course.

“Neither Collingwood nor De Goey is in a position to make further comment.”

The police charge continues a tumultuous week for Collingwood, who lost senior midfielder Steele Sidebottom after he was banned for four weeks by the AFL for breaking the league’s coronavirus restrictions.

Police confirm Jordan De Goey charge

Victoria Police provided a statement to Fox Footy, confirming two men had been charged with indecent assault.

There are no reports as to the identity of the second man to be charged.

“Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged two people in relation to a reported sexual assault,” the statement read.

“Two 24-year-olds, one from Hampton East and one from Clematis, have both been charged with indecent assault and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates‘ Court at a later date.

“The charges are in relation to an incident which is alleged to have occurred in Kew in 2015.

“As this matter is now before the court, police will not be making any further comment.”
