Kane Cornes has fired back at Taylor Walker, bringing his poor performance in the 2017 grand final into their nasty slanging match.

Kornes called out an unnamed player on TV on Sunday, saying he’d received a number of abusive messages and would ‘out’ him if it continued.

“There is a big name who is regularly sending me text messages to SEN when I am on air,” Cornes said on The Sunday Footy Show.

“He does not know that his name comes up. This person is not anonymous.

“This is my warning for this big-name AFL player: If you continue to send these text messages in, I will out you and I will name you.”

Walker, who famously doesn’t like Cornes very much, shot back and said: “This bloke can dish it out but can’t take it. Grow up and stop sooking!”

Cornes says Waker ‘mentally fragile’

Of course Cornes wasn’t going to let that slide, taking aim at Walker on Footy Classified on Monday night.

“What it has given me is a great insight into is Taylor Walker’s mindset,” Cornes said.

“If he is that rattled by a comment that is so unrelated to him that he feels like he has to continually chip in, it paints a picture to me of what is reflective of his career and his football club.

“When there are big moments, they don’t have the mental toughness to perform.”

Cornes played footage from the 2017 grand final to illustrate his point, showing highlights of Walker’s disappointing performance.

“If an unrelated media member gets him chipping in every time - if you’ve got Taylor Walker and his mates prank calling me on New Year’s Eve - that is how far I’m inside this guy’s head, to the point where he’s mentally fragile,” Cornes said.

“That’s why we’re seeing efforts like this. That’s why the club is employing Collective Minds to work on the players’ mindset. They’re a mentally fragile group.”

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd then weighed in on the debate, saying Walker needed to refrain from giving Cornes any more ammo.

“All you are doing is giving Kane content for the next day and day after,” Lloyd said.

“Kane has a lot of hours to fill — and what Kane’s just had to do is speak about it again.

“For me I’d say to Tex: ‘What do you have to gain by that tweet? I want you to have the best season you have ever had. How does a tweet like that help you in this situation?’

“One thing I will agree Kane is Tex gets into situations where he doesn’t need to. He’s not the captain anymore, so focus on being the best footballer you can be and text messaging like that doesn’t help.”

Cornes and Walker have had a number of run-ins over the years, including Cornes paying voicemail messages he’d received from Walker’s friends on Adelaide radio.

Walker was also caught calling Cornes a ‘d***head’ before a live TV interview when he thought no one could hear him.
