Why this concept design for a skate park has raised eyebrows

A local council in Adelaide has been left red-faced after dozens took to social media to suggest the image of its proposed new skate park resembled the male anatomy.

Tea Tree Gully Council took to Facebook on Monday to share a bird’s-eye view of one of the two proposed skate parks, but it was quickly forced to remove the post after it became a point of ridicule online with many pointing out its phallic appearance.

"We need your feedback on final concepts for the Bentley Reserve skate park redesign," the original post read.

Eagle-eyed Facebook users were quick to spot the similarities, poking fun at the council’s plans.

“How long will it take to erect?” one joked.

The comments didn’t stop once the council replaced the image with a ground level view.

“The other design must have had too much pressure that it turned into a flop,” another said.

The council eventually moved to address the social media furore surrounding the designs.

“AWKWARD! We’re feeling a little red-faced here after posting our skate park design,” the council wrote on Facebook.

“We’ve changed the photo to one that more accurately reflects what people might expect to see from ground level, as we would hate to set up false expectations - too much pressure for a skate park.

“Thanks to all the clever people in our community for your ‘helpful suggestions’.”

Bentley Reserve is a hub for community activities, and renovations to the skate park will be completed in the following financial year.
