Dennis Quaid, 65, has opened up about his proposal to 26-year-old girlfriend Laura Savoie.

The actor, who famously starred in The Parent Trap alongside Lindsay Lohan, made the revelation to Extra and detailed the six weeks of planning that went into the big question he popped earlier this month.

“I had the ring in my pocket. It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan—I wanted it to be private,” he said.

“She was actually taking a selfie of us, [in front of the sunset] and I put the ring in front and said, 'Will you marry me?' And then she fell down.”

Falling in love fast

Despite their clear commitment towards one another, the couple is believed to have only started dating earlier this year.

Laura is currently working towards her PhD in accounting at the University of Texas and previously dated Entourage star Jeremy Piven.

Similarly, her now-fiancé is well acquainted with serious relationships having been married three times before.

He was wed to P. J. Soles from 1978 until 1983, Meg Ryan from 1991 until 2001 and, most recently, Kimberly Quaid from 2004 until 2018.

He has one son, 27-year-old Jack—who’s one year older than his future step-mum—with Meg, and 11-year-old twins Zoe and Thomas with Kimberly.

Moving on

Dennis previously opened up about his past romances, insisting that he doesn't regret any of his relationships and that he's learned to ‘look back at them with fondness’.

“Live and let live. That's really the course of things. I look back at the things I worried about ten years ago and I can't even remember what they were, really,” he said.

“After you've been apart, after relationships end. The once hot emotions mellow over the years and you forget about it. And you look back with fondness."
