Brisbane restaurant targeted in hate attack: 'Soaked in blood'

An Israeli restaurant in Brisbane has vowed to keep its doors “wide open to all” after a second hate attack.

In an Instagram post a mystery author slammed Yababa for selling “stolen” food “soaked in blood”.

“There is no such thing as Israeli food,” read a caption scrawled across the top of a photo of the eatery.

“Yababa is stolen Palestinian culture.

“You bury Palestinians then sell their food off as your own.

“You are not welcome.”

It was the second strike on the upmarket Paddington business after vulgar graffiti was scribbled across the footpath outside the Baroona Road shop.

“Stolen Palestinian food,” the message read.

“Zionists.

“F**k off.”

‘Keep doing what we know best’

But the anti-Israel campaign has done little to deter the owners of Yababa, who are believed to have lost family members during the Holocaust, the Brisbane Times reported.

“This is the second time that Yababa at Paddington is experiencing written notices of unnecessary hatred, false and incorrect messages,” the business wrote on Facebook.

“Those are not going to change the fact that Yababa is and will be providing its customers with an amazing Israeli Cuisine, The Israeli way.”

The restaurant added that “Yababa’s doors are wide open to all existing customers and future customers.”

“We’ll just keep doing what we know best,” the restaurant said.

‘Vile and ignorant behaviour’

Diners were quick to pledge their support to the business.

“So sorry to see this,” one person wrote on Facebook. “We will always support your wonderful restaurant and fabulous staff.”

“You just keep doing you!” another said. “Sounds like maybe your business is successful and there are jealous trolls out there. Their nonsense will not alter the opinions of your loyal, happy patrons.”

“Sending you lots of love and support,” someone else added. “I’ll see you soon.”

While others slammed the “absolutely vile” and “ignorant behaviour.”

“The most ironic thing is that most of these people have no clue what they’re talking about when they spread their hate messages,” one person wrote.
