Court hears explosive police interview from man accused of Korean student's murder
An explosive police interview has been played to a Supreme Court jury during the trial of the man accused of murdering Korean student Eunji Ban in Queensland.
In it, Alex McEwan tells officers that a "demon" is to blame for the killing and that he had been waiting for it to happen his entire life.
Ban, a young Korean student, was bashed to death and left for dead while walking to work.
The court heard that the accused murderer told police: "I just woke up and I don't even remember it ... I was waiting for it my whole life."
"Waiting for what?" the police officer asks.
"To kill someone," he responds.
The 22-year-old student's body was discovered in Brisbane's CBD nearly four years ago.
The first responding paramedic was unable to determine her gender because her facial bruising and swelling was so severe.
In the video played in court, McEwan says he "bashed the s*** out of her face."
When the police officer asks why, McEwan says: "First person I saw ... I feel sorry for the Asian girl and her family."
Ban's family have flown to Australia for the trial, hearing all the shocking evidence in person.
McEwan's defence lawyers will argue that he is insane.
