A man is accused of deliberately killing a 12-week-old kitten in Sydney's east.

The 25-year-old man was at a Bronte unit on Sunday when he carried the occupant's Bengal kitten outside.

Witnesses told police the man threw the kitten onto the ground, then into a wall.

The kitten was taken to a vet but died a short time later.

Police arrested the man at the Haymarket on Monday and charged him with recklessly beating and killing an animal.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court on Tuesday.
