A man who allegedly kidnapped a 12-year-old boy for ransom has been charged.
Zhen Jie Zhang, 53, was extradited to Queensland from NSW after appearing in the Grafton Local Court on Monday.
Zhang was interviewed by Queensland police on Monday night and charged with two counts of extortion and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and kidnapping for ransom.
He will appear in a Gold Coast court on Tuesday.
A boy, 12, was dragged into a car outside his Gold Coast home on Friday afternoon.
He was found by police in Grafton, more than 200km south of the Gold Coast, less than 24 hours later.
Police claim the alleged kidnapper had fallen out with the boy's family over "substantial" personal loans.
Queensland police have declined to comment on reports a second person was involved in the abduction.
