'This is absolutely not acceptable': Customers slam Woolworths over mouldy food

A number of customers have slammed Woolworths after discovering mould on food they have recently bought.

Customers have posted images of their items on the supermarket’s Facebook page, claiming the “fresh food people” aren’t so fresh after all.

Customer Chloe Khan shared a picture of a block of cheese she purchased from the Birkdale store in Queensland on the weekend.

The packet says the dairy product is best before April 2019 but one side of the block of cheese is covered in a thick patches of mould.

“Had a craving for some cheese and salami on crackers with some sun-dried tomato … went and got everything … came home opened the cheese to find this,” she said.

Another customer who bought garlic bread from a store in Everton Park in Brisbane also complained of a similar problem.

“Today after a long day my partner and I decided to stay home and have frozen pizza and garlic bread bought from your Everton Park store for dinner, that we had purchased earlier this week,” Paddy Franks wrote over the weekend.

“When buying our garlic bread we decided on getting the Woolworths select garlic bread cause it’s only garlic bread right.

“To our surprise when opening your garlic bread (we) find mould on our garlic bread. Our first thought was that the garlic bread was out of date but it wasn’t.”

Mr Franks slammed Woolworths, claiming they also had problems with cheese going mouldy before its expiry date.

“This is absolutely not acceptable to be handing out mouldy food to hardworking Australians,” he said.

Another man, Aman Singh, also complained of mould on garlic bread he bought from a Woolworths store in Craigieburn in Melbourne that was not out of date until today.

On Monday morning another customer complained of mould on a falafel salad he had bought from a supermarket.

“Woolworths, the ‘fresh’ food people. Because when I think of ‘fresh’, I think of the white, fuzzy mould growing on the salad I bought this morning,” Cristiaan Ven Palt said.

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo7 News they take food quality very seriously and are looking into the customer reports.
