Abbie Chatfield reveals who she doesn't want to see on Masked Singer

From pop stars to sporting icons, acclaimed actors to TV legends, The Masked Singer Australia has featured a wide range of celebrity contestants since it premiered in 2019.

And while Abbie Chatfield is thrilled to be on the guessing panel this year to help uncover which stars are hiding under the masks, there was one famous face she didn't want to see on the show.

Chatting with Yahoo Lifestyle about the new season, which wrapped filming late last month, the radio host reveals that she would have hated to see celebrity chef Pete Evans performing on stage.

“I narrowly missed having an interaction with him on I’m A Celebrity two years ago when he uploaded that Nazi meme, so I was hoping he wasn't back,” she said.

“That was kind of the only person that I thought, ‘God I hope it isn’t Pete Evans’.”

Pete Evans’ controversial past

The former My Kitchen Rules judge has been heavily criticised in recent years for spreading vaccine misinformation and advocating for alternative medicines.

In 2020 he was sensationally dropped by Channel Seven after promoting a conspiracy theorist’s video claiming that coronavirus both did not exist and was caused by 5G antenna installations.

He was also fined $25,000 from the Therapeutic Goods Administration after spruiking a $15,000 light machine as a potential coronavirus treatment, and both his Instagram and Facebook pages were removed for “repeated breaches of its misinformation and harm policies”.

Pete was rumoured to be appearing on season seven of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, however, he was reportedly dropped from the show following a number of controversial social media posts.

One post featured the neo-Nazi symbol known as the Black Sun, although he later denied that he knew what the symbol stood for.

Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge eventually appeared on the reality show and confirmed to Kyle & Jackie O that he was Pete’s replacement.

‘There are some fantastic celebrities’

While Abbie might not want to see Pete on The Masked Singer, there are a few stars that she’s hoping to see unmasked.

“Lime Cordiale I would have loved, but they’re too cool,” she laughs. “I mean, not to hang s**t on The Masked Singer, but can you imagine Lime Cordiale doing The Masked Singer?

“I did really want a Real Housewife to be on there and a few of the clues were lining up, so maybe my wish came true.”

She adds that the “celebrities are bigger than ever” on this year’s season of the singing competition and viewers will be surprised to see who Channel Ten have locked in.

“I mean, I cried at one of the reveals so just get ready,” she remarks.

“There are huge celebrity reveals and I feel like there are going to be a lot of questions as to how we got them down here. I'm chalking it up to a lot of people wanted to come to Australia after a long time of Covid, but there are some fantastic celebrities.”

The Masked Singer continues tonight at 7:30pm on Ten.
