An experienced free diver who collapsed and died today shortly after leaving the water near Yallingup succumbed to natural causes, police said.

Police spokesman Sgt Graham Clifford said the 60-year-old man had been diving with a buddy at Sugar Loaf Rock when he experienced difficulties exiting the water about 2pm.

He collapsed and died at the scene despite the resuscitation efforts of his diving partner and bystanders.

Sgt Clifford said it appeared the man died of natural causes, although the specific cause of his death was yet to be determined.
