It's a boy! Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to her third child

The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a boy, Kensington Palace has revealed.

The Palace tweeted out the news, stating that the child was delivered at 11.01am (local time), weighing 8lbs 7oz (approximately 3.4 kg).

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news," the Palace tweeted.

Earlier, the Palace’s official Twitter account confirmed that the Duchess had gone into labour, tweeting: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour.

“The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

It’s understood that the Duchess was admitted to hospital just before 6am.

After the announcement that the Duchess of Cambridge had gone into labour, excited royal-watchers began to flock to the Lindo wing of St Mary's Hospital as the media throng gathered.

Many royal devotees were dressed up in Union Jack outfits, holding baby dolls and wearing T-shirts that read: "I was there when Baby No.3 was born."

The birth comes just days after it was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge's sister, Pippa, was pregnant with her first child to husband James Matthews, whom she married in May 2017.

What will the royal baby’s title be?
The royal baby’s title will be HRH Prince of Cambridge and he will celebrate his birthday on St George’s Day.

The baby prince will be fifth in line to the throne, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s sixth great-grandchild and a younger brother for Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two.

It’s thought that the royal baby might be called Philip. Other favourite monikers include Arthur, Albert, Frederick and James.

When did the Duchess of Cambridge go on maternity leave?
The Duchess went on maternity leave on March 22, but was seen at church with the royals on Easter Sunday in Windsor on April 1.

The royal baby will share his big day with the likes of William Shakespeare, J.M.W Turner, Shirley Temple, wrestler John Cena, actor Dev Patel and model Gigi Hadid.

The royal baby news comes after the Royal Family celebrated the Queen’s 92nd birthday at the weekend, with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
