Baby suffocated while asleep after teddy bear fell on her

A baby girl has tragically died after a teddy bear fell on her while she was asleep in bed.

Eighteen-month-old Connie Rose was found dead by her mum Dexy Leigh Walsh, 23, at their home in Dundee, eastern Scotland on March 6.

“When I opened the door all I could see of my little girl was her legs sticking out from under the teddy,” Ms Walsh told The Metro.

“She was lying face facing up in the bed but with the big teddy on top of her.”

The mum tried performing CPR and then called an ambulance but it was too late.

Ms Walsh has since started a Facebook page called Connie Rose Awareness to warn parents about leaving stuffed toys in cots.

“I have been blaming myself as she passed away due to suffocation as I had packed down the side of her bed with teddy’s and placed a big one on top of the smaller teddys to stop her from falling down the side of her bed,” Ms Walsh wrote.

“As it was all teddy bears she went under the massive teddy and fell asleep with the angels, all I think about now is what if I just left it empty she would still be here maybe with just a small bump on her head.”

The 23-year-old mum hopes her daughter’s tragic death “can save someone else’s life”.

“Your story is saving lives out there baby and giving parents a big awareness of the dangers of things being on and around a kid’s bed,” she wrote.
