Woman traumatised after simple error sees her lose all belongings

A woman has been left devastated after all her belongings, including several items of expensive jewellery, were accidentally left outside of her apartment and taken off the street while she was at work.

Loni Evans, 29, originally from Wales, was in the process of moving out of her apartment on Old South Head Road in North Bondi on Sunday when her flatmate misunderstood her instructions to remove everything from their home.

"I told him to move all the rubbish out of the house and he's ended up putting all my stuff in the street," she told Yahoo7 News.

After she received a call at work on Monday saying someone had found her passport in the street, her heart immediately sank.

"I burst into tears and called my landlord thinking he'd thrown it out. I called my roommate and said 'please tell me you didn't throw my stuff' and his reply was 'What? Yes, I took everything out of the house like you said'," she recalled.

Among Ms Evans' belongings, which she has valued at "at least $10,000", were several pieces of expensive and sentimental jewellery given to her from her family.

"There were Swarovski crystal earrings, six Swarovski necklaces, a gold bangle and Chanel gold earrings," she said.

Ms Evans said she had packed up her "whole life" into bags, in preparation to move into her new apartment in Maroubra.

She rushed home from work to find several pairs of her underwear strewn across the street, leaving her "heartbroken to see empty bags of where my life was".

Despite her ordeal, the traffic controller has taken her flatmate's word that he had misinterpreted her request to empty the flat.

"I’m not blaming my flatmate as he’s said it was a genuine accident but I’m thinking: 'How can someone be so stupid?'," she said.

Ms Evans shared her unfortunate plight across Facebook and left notices across her neighbourhood in hope someone who had innocently taken any of her belongings found out it had been one big misunderstanding.

On Friday, she received a call from a neighbour responding to her posters, saying he had managed to retrieve six items of activewear from the street, offering a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Some Facebook users have even offered to help her furnish her new home and offer her some old clothes.

Ms Evans has pleaded to anyone who may have stumbled across her belongings to return them, insisting she holds no grudges.

"If you’ve got any of my belongings and you know it's too good to be thrown away and you can see they're sentimental items please call me," she begged.

"I’m not accusing them of stealing, I would like to think if I was in the situation I'd take things but if I saw someone begging for them back and saying that their whole life has been taken, I’d bring them back."

Ms Evans says among the other times taken was a Nikon digital camera, brand new KYLIE make up, and many new items of clothing and bikinis.

Ms Evans has asked for anyone with any information about her belongings taken from outside 373 Old South Head Road to message her on 0406 259 266.
