Woman sent first date invoice after declining to meet man again

A woman says she was sent an invoice by a man she went on a date with because she failed to reply to his messages asking for a second one.

Amanda Burnett, from Indiana in the US, posted the invoice on Facebook saying: "I didn't know this was how dates worked nowadays".

After having some dinner with her date one night, she decided not to pursue the potential relationship any further and reportedly snubbed a text message he sent asking to hang out again, The Sun reports.

A few weeks later, she couldn't believe the letter she received in the mail.

The bill charged Ms Burnett US$20 (A$25.75) in bar costs, a further US$14.50 (A$18.60) for her meal of pulled pork tacos and she was also hit with a US$1.99 (A$2.50) "processing fee".

Sales tax of $2.56 (A$3.30) was also added and a shipping and handling fee which was $0.47 (A$.060).

All up, it came to $39.52 (A$50.88).

To say Ms Burnett laughed it off is an understatement.

"Please tell me you’re not actually paying this," one friend asked her to which she replied: "with Monopoly money!".

However, when she didn't make payment, her date sent her a text message and said to "avoid an additional penalty or fines" that she better pay up.

While it was all fun and laughs at first, people reportedly began to turn on Ms Burnett and said she should have paid for her own meal anyway.

One Twitter user said: “Pay for your own meal if you don’t have the decency to tell him things aren’t working".

Another said: “If you don’t have the decency to text the guy back he’s in every right to make you pay for the meal. Only fair!"

Ms Burnett said she allowed the man to pay because he had invited her to dinner.
