WATCH: Man uses jet-ski move he 'watched on YouTube' to extinguish flaming boat
A Queensland man's quick-thinking actions have been hailed after he used his jet-ski to extinguish huge fire on a boat.
Jason Dobinson, from Maroochydore, was camping at Boondooma Dam, 200km west of the Sunshine Coast, over the Easter long weekend when he noticed a burning boat on the water.
Failing to locate a fire extinguisher after a frantic search, Mr Dobinson sprung into action with inspiration from something he'd only seen online.
"I remember watching a Youtube clip from the US and it gave me the idea so I ran back down to the water and got on my jet-ski," Mr Dobinson told Yahoo7 News.
Mr Dobinson, a rope access technician, jumped on his jet-ski and raced to the scene of the vacant boat before sharply turning to throw waves over the vessel.
After going around in a circle several times, the waves eventually put out the blaze.
"My heart was racing, hoping it wouldn't get bigger. Everyone was screaming but I couldn't hear much while I kept spinning," he revealed.
Mr Dobinson said he knew he had to react quickly with the risk of the fibreglass boat exploding, with families perilously close to the boat.
He was eventually relieved no one was harmed, returning to the shore to a hero's welcome.
"It was the biggest round of applause I've ever had, which was quite overwhelming to be honest," he said.

He did reveal his disappointment that the boat's owner failed to show his gratitude in a stereotypical Aussie manner.
"I'm a bit disappointed as the owner didn’t buy me a carton of beer for my troubles," he admitted.
A spokesperson at Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park told Yahoo7 News there were no reported injuries from the incident and that the flames were fully extinguished just minutes after they broke out.
