Fury at Easter long weekend campers 'taking over entire beach'

Easter campers have left local residents furious after "taking up driving space at a Queensland beach leaving motorists nowhere to go".

High tide has swallowed up most of the beach area and forced campers onto the sand dunes at Teewah Beach at Double Island Point, north of Noosa.

It's understood there was chaos on the beach as campers in four-wheel-drives rushed up onto the sand dunes to avoid getting swept away in the tide, a Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson said, Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

The spokesperson said locals were left angry as there was no beach left for them to drive on.

"It's a really high tide there at the moment with very strong surges," the spokesperson said.

"People are having to drive up on the dunes because there is nowhere else."

"The camp-sites are completely booked out for the entire weekend so you can imagine how many people are there."

There was just one life guard stationed at the beach on Friday and his priority was not what was happening on the beach but what was happening in the water, the spokesperson said.

The tide at the beach is above 2 metres, according to reports.
